Vehicle Tax And Bluebook Renewal Process in Nepal

Every vehicle owners in Nepal are obligated to pay their vehicle tax to the government of Nepal.  It is determined by the government in each fiscal year. Vehicle taxes are categorized into several types, including road tax, green tax, route permit tax, and supplementary duty tax. It is important for vehicle owners to pay their vehicle tax on time to avoid penalties and legal consequences. The amount of tax depends on the vehicle’s engine capacity and its type. It is important to note that vehicle taxes are subject to change, so it is advisable to consult the concerned authorities or a licensed tax consultant to obtain accurate information.

Blue book Renewal Process

Blue book renewal is the next name for paying vehicle tax. Blue book or bill book is a small document with all the information of the vehicle. It contains the owner bio with the vehicle engine capacity, engine number, chassis number and the type of the vehicle. It also says if the tax is paid or not for the fiscal year of any particular vehicle. 

Steps to Renew Blue Book 

You need to visit the Department of Transportation Management Office (DOTM) in order to pay the vehicle tax. If your vehicle insurance has been expired then you need to get your vehicle insured first. You can find a few insurance office in the DOTM office itself, where you can apply for the insurance. There are three types of vehicle on the basis of damage coverage. Third party, second party and first party insurance are the three types of insurance available. The amount of insurance premium and risk coverage increases from third to first party insurance. So you can choose any type of insurance for your vehicle. You can get further information on the office itself.

After you have insured your vehicle, you need to submit your insurance paper and blue book to an officer. You will get your insurance paper back without the blue book. The officer will verify your document and pass your blue book to the other section of the office. 

You will have to wait for some time until your vehicle registration number is announced. After the announcement, you need to pay the tax amount to one of the officer along with a renewal fee. If you are late in paying your taxes, then you will be charged with a late fine.  After the payment you will get a receipt of your payment.  

You will be instructed to go to other section of the office to verify your blue book renewal. You need to hand over the receipt and your blue book to the officer and wait for some time. It’s the last stage of renewal prices. Here the officer adds the date of tax payment and its expiry date in the blue book, with his/her signature as a proof of tax payment.
